Perhaps a measure of true stardom is the amount of promotions a star does.  For every big NBA player they are in a commercial for a sport's drink or promoting a shoe company - maybe even their own shoe.

Shakira is no different.  When Donde Estan Los Ladrones came out in 1998 was when she landed her first big deal.  The deal was with Pepsi and stated Shakira would do three Pepsi commercials within the next three years, drink no other soda than Pepsi while making appearances, and attend photo shoots which will be used for Pepsi cans, invitations, posters, etc.  The biggest Pepsi commercial was when they did a remake of the music video 'Inevitable.'  Really nice directing work, look at the video in the Multimedia section.

Next, Calvin Kleine approached her after her big hit with MTV Unplugged in 1999.  Though she made no commercials, she did have to attend many photo shoots promoting Calvin Kleine's new 'Dirty Jeans.'

With digital companies finding business in Latin America, cell phones were becoming more and more popular.  Cell phone giant Nokia wanted a spokesperson to get the average Latino's attention and make them want to purchase a cellular phone.  They found Shakira.  In a contract, she made a commercial which you can download in the Multimedia section, and a number of photo shoots.

Today, Pepsi has resigned Shakira.  In her contract, she has agreed to do four commercials, two in English and two in Spanish, and attend photo shoots.  You can see one of them in the News section.  Depending on how well she does in the USA, Pepsi will more than likely resign her after their contract expires.
